The game's two-player mode is making a return, and will feature more of that level-based goodness that the game is being packed with, so you and a friend can work towards some cool objectives. Additionally, only a sim with high technical expertise will be able to work the incubator - so if you're interested in scientific toys, make sure you're well equipped for the task. Many items now evolve over time, like the carnivorous plant, and it can also be used in multiple different ways. Of course, it's handy if you have burglars, but probably not the best if you have friendly visitors who might stumble into harm's way, so you have to be careful with your objects and how they evolve. Feed it a lot, though, and it can even eat other sims.

One of them is a plant that eats pests and garbage, which looks kind of like Audrey from Little Shop of Horrors. Of course, cool objects are at the game's core, so it's no surprise that the team at EA is working diligently on adding in lots of 'em.įor example, if you manage to get hold of the incubator, you can grow plants. Cool interactive items like air hockey tables are available - and you can earn the right to own your own if you win at the game. Any behavior you see you can copy, and if you engage in a behavior that's appropriate to the situation - that is, it meshes with the personality of the computer-controlled sim you're interacting with - your two sims will get along famously, allowing for more depth of interaction. While you're visiting your neighbors, you can earn the rights to their items and learn behaviors from them. The more successful you are, the bigger and more elaborate homes you can enjoy, and the better vehicles you have at your disposal, too, which allows you get to different places in the Bustin' Out world. In fact, your own sim will even enjoy a number of dwellings throughout his or her life, depending on the career path you choose. This isn't limited to the "level-based" portion of the game, either. Your sim can now drive a car and visit other game characters in their own houses. To keep the game fresh, EA has invested effort into offering a variety of locations for your character to visit. The thought is to increase the game's depth by having the sims' personalities affect their approach toward certain objects in the game - it's no longer merely arbitrary, but a choice you make: What sort of lifestyle you pursue for your virtual minion defines how you play the game.

For example, a sim with those traits might enjoy using an item like the rock climbing wall, as that's a more sporty personality. The traits you pump up - such as making an outgoing and active sim - affect both the hobbies and career choices available to your character. For further realism you have control not only of your sim's appearance, of course, but you also have more control over the character's personality. Since the game is based around (fairly) realistic graphics and situations, this is key to its appeal. Of course, you'll also be able to play with the robust, traditional freeform game if you're so inclined.Īnother way the game is being improved is through redone graphics: The character models are being enhanced, and the overall look of the game is more interesting. Consequently, much of Bustin' Out's design efforts are focusing on offering more of that type of experience. Console gamers are into objectives and structure, or so the theory goes - and the previous game's objective-driven levels went down extremely well with gamers EA's polled. The dam hasn't broken, though, and Electronic Arts is back with this year's model - a retuned Sims which is designed specifically to offer more of exactly what people liked about the first game.įor one, the level-based structure that was pioneered in the previous game has come back for an even greater role. The Sims' invasion onto consoles started last year with a multi-format release which garnered reasonable acclaim and respectable sales.
